Handmade Card Envelopes and Boxes  

The envelope or box that your card is sent in makes all the difference to the overall look of the card.  Handmade envelopes and boxes add to the appeal of handmade cards and this is even more important if you are selling your work as it is seen as a complete package.   

Envelopes 

You need to ensure you leave enough room for the card along with space for any embellishments which may be on the card.  You also need to consider if the card would be ruined if it was squashed in the post, if so could a layer pf bubble wrap be added to the envelope. 

• Make your own envelope template buy cutting the template out of scrap card so you can draw around it again and again, you will need to resize this to fit your cards.
• Draw around your template and cut it out carefully with scissors. 
• Place your envelope with the outside downward and score all the lines that need folding. 
• Place a line of glue onto the two outside edges of one of the larger panels then fold in the two smaller edges and place the glued edges on top. 

Gift Boxes 

Gift boxes may be required for more elaborate cards that may be damaged if placed in an envelope. 

There are many types of gift box template that are available, some that require gluing and some that just require folding. 

If supplying gift boxes with your cards to sell it is a good point to mark on how much the card costs to send through the post so that your customer has all the information they need to buy. 

Envelopes and gift boxes can be made out of colored card or paper to match or compliment youe handmade card.  As you become more experienced at making envelopes and boxes you will be able to add special touchs such as using peper or card with images on or adding a different colored or patterned inlay so the inside looks different from the outside.
