Rotary Cutter
A rotary cutter is
a tool which is normally utilized by quilters to cut
cloth pieces or fabrics. The basic rotary cutter has a
circular blade which is available in different sizes.
Most of the times, smaller blades are utilized to cut
corners and larger blades are utilized to cut straight
lines. These rotary cutters generally offer the quilter
the capability to cut large number of fabrics accurately
and quickly. One of the main requirements for rotary
cutting is the rotary cutter, a heavy plastic ruler and
an exclusive mat. There are two types of rotary cutters
one is a large one and the other one is
a
smaller one. The smaller
cutter is not necessarily used for and is normally used
for trimming and cutting, whereas the larger cuter is
recommended for complete rotary cutting.

of Rotary Cutters: There
are many types of rotary cutters available in the market,
all of which have different handle shapes and variety of
protective covers. Generally, a large rotary blade is
being used to cut many layers of fabric at one time.
However, cutting too many layers at one time destroys the
accuracy of cutting. This is why it is necessary for the
quilter to have lots of practice to cut many pieces of
fabric at one time. Rotary cutters are exceptionally
sharp and so the quilter has to be extra cautious when
using these
cutters.
A rotary cutter is said to be a useful
tool for any quilter. These cutters allow the quilter to
perform cutting more layers of fabric and getting smooth
edges. Generally, a large cutter is used to cut multiple
layers of fabric. A quilter may also require a cutting mat
along with the cutter in order to protect the surface of the
blade when cutting. Cutting mats are also available in many
different sizes and variety of markings.
It is always better to choose
a 22 inch wide mat, which will allows the width of the
fabric to fold and cut in half.
Special
Advice: It is always
necessary to close the blade of the cuter when it is not
in use in order to avoid any mishaps. The rotary cutter
must be used only with a specialized cutting mat in order
to avoid damage to the surface, cutters blade, to slip
while cutting. Quilters must work with complete attention
towards the rotary cutter and the ruler while cutting.
Most of the quilters have faced serious mishaps due to
lack of concentration and so it is always important to
ensure safety measures while working with the rotary
cutter.
It is also better to always keep the
rotary cutter clean and at a safe place. Taking some
precautionary measures when using rotary cutters around
children is one of the main requisite.
Rotary
cutting is in fact one of the most important skills for a
quilter where he can save time, because it reduces the
necessity to mark and cut single patches of a fabric.
Rotary cutting not only speeds up the congregation of the
quilt, if it is done accurately, it will certainly reduce
the accuracy of working.
