Candle
Making Scents
Candle making has been an age-old
activity. Candles have been used in place of electricity
for years together. At a number of prayer services,
candles are used. Candlelight dinner has always been the
most sought after option when it comes to romance. All
said and done; creativity has always been the passion of
mankind. Till now, scents were used as body and handy
sprays, but now, they are being used in candle making as
well. With candle
making scents being a popular add
on.
Standard Liquid Candle
Scents: These
scents are widely used in the manufacture of wax candles.
The technology used is called Clear Candle Technology. It is
used in manufacturing of gel candles as well. Most of these
scents are skin-safe. They have a 100% concentration. The
amount of scent to be used depends on desired strength and a
specific fragrance. The proportions normally suggested are
6% (1 ounce/pound). Adjustment upto 9% (1.5 ounces/pound)
can be done. Higher loads of scent would affect the burning
properties of candles adversely. They might also result in
excessive smoke, mushrooming (blooming), and coking. The
addition of scent is suggested two minutes before pouring
the candle. Heating for a longer duration might contribute
in losing of some scent. Hence, it’s essential to ensure
that the wax and scent are fully agitated before mixing
them.
Scents might come in variety of colors.
They can be the cause of discoloration in a
finished candle. To avoid
this, testing is suggested. A dark cool place should be
selected for storing them. Direct sunlight is likely to
cause unnecessary crystallization and discoloration. The
shelf life would be reduced. Normal shelf life can be
stated as 6 months.
Scenti
MasterBatch: Scenti
MasterBatch is based on ‘solid fragrance system’. This
scent, in its solid form permits easy handling with zero
waste. The patented process enables complete wax
solubility.
Advantages: The advantages of Scenti Masterbatch
include excellent ability of scent binding, fragrance
retention, better burn performance, cost savings due to
abridged additive levels, and safety from dermatological
point of view. The formulation of Scenti MasterBatch implies
scent-fastening ability. This helps when one needs huge
percentages of aroma in compressed, over dipped, poured, and
molded candles. The opacity of wax gets increased
tremendously due to the clouding effect produced by addition
of scent.
Any liquid scent
can be replaced by Scenti Masterbatch. The levels of
usage of fragrance can be described as: 6% (1
ounce/pound), 9% (1.5 ounces/pound), 12% (2
ounces/pound). Usage at 100% is also possible. As the
product exists in the form of solid, cutting off the
amount needed and melting it with solid wax have to be
done to have the production time speedend
up.
Value added Liquid Candle
Scents: These are
amongst the latest lot in the market. They cost less than
$11 per pound. They are cheaper, but it doesn’t mean that
they have a substandard quality. The proportions are the
same as the above two scents. All the other properties are
also the same. The price is the only difference. So, people
who are in a hand to mouth situation need not crib about not
being able to afford scents. Value added scents can serve
the purpose.

Candle making can be enjoyed by everyone but
candle making for
kids can be very fun.
