Machine Quilting Designs - Down Home Dreams 104 Easy Quilting 1 Embroidery Disk

Quilting is an art in itself. It’s similar to painting, where needles and threads are used instead of a brush and paints, and paper is replaced by fabrics. Traditionally quilts are made by hands but now-a-days it is also made from sewing machines using machine quilting designs. This process is much faster and you will get a much neater quilt. You can use an ordinary sewing machine or one that is specifically designed for this purpose.

Quilts are made from patching up a series of small fabrics in small steps. It is just like building  and putting a  puzzle together, just that in quilts you only need to stitch it up. This is a craft which has been in existence since a very long time. The various patch work and designs of the quilt bring back many fond and cherished memories to many people.

Quilting for beginners:For beginners, you can start the process of quilting by using two pieces of fabrics or collect the left over fabric or material from previous stitching and start sewing all the pieces together. All you need to do is practice more often using the sewing machine. It is important that you know how to handle the machine well, before starting the work. In the mean time you can also create the designs of the quilt. Start from a simple design. You can also log onto the Internet and get some free quilting designs on many Art and Craft websites.

Sudberry Designs D1300 Crazy Quilts CDMachine quilting designs can be bought on a cd that can be loaded directly onto your machine to make it easy for you to get started with you new quilt.   Otherwise you would need to look for the design you want in books.

When you find the design you want, you need to draw it on a fabric and cut it out. Place the cut out designs on the quilt and set it the way you want to place them. To mark the designs around the quilt, what you can do is run the sewing needles, without using the threads, around the designs. The impression of the dotted marks will make the quilt making procedure easier.

OESD 11395 Quilt Squares Embroidery CD Design PackIn quilts, there is a wide range of colors that you can choose from. A quilt does not generally stick to one solid color. It is through these multiple colors that a quilt comes out as a dynamic piece of artwork, when it’s finished. It is important that you choose the color of the quilt very carefully. Choose cool colors for bedroom quilts as it will create a calm and soothing feeling. A brighter color quilt will be more suitable and apt for a guest room where guests can admire your work.

Quilts are designed depending upon certain themes. This is the toughest part in quilting. Certain designs have to fit into the theme you have taken. For example if you are making baby quilts you would want to use some common pattern like letters of the alphabets, toys, blocks or animals. Choose a color which is neutral and quite bold. Otherwise, you can follow the age old cliché of using soft colors like pink or blue for the babies.
