What is scrapbooking
?
So what is
scrapbooking well, in very basic terms, it is another way
of recording information such as printed media,
photographs or memorabilia. Scrapbooking can also be
refered to as scrapping or scrappin.
Many people think
scrapbooks are photo albums, but although they do now
usually contain photos they contain a lot more and the
photos are displayed in more designer fashion than an
ordinary photo album.
Scrapbooking has been
around in a notebook form since the time of the ancient
Greeks when it was used as a way of recording anything
they had heard that was worth remembering. Early scrapbooks were a
blend of journaling, ephemera and memorabilia
collections. The
use of photographs in scrapbooks has been around
since ordinary people had cameras available to
use.
Scrapbooking has changed from the early days of including
newspaper clippings and letters to them modern scrapbooks
which now include photos in attractive displays, text and
journaling.
In modern times
scrapbooking has become more of an art form then a
practical craft, but it will always remain popular as the
people who create scrapbooks are not just displaying
items in an artistic way, they are recording a memory, or
a feeling and because of this have a love for what
they are doing and see it as more than a hobby.
Scrapbooks can be very personal which is why the term
keepsake books is also used in the craft. Many
scrappers like to share there scrapbooks as show off
there work which is why there are so many clubs around,
this is also a way to share the latest trends and
techniques, as well as the latest craft suppliers that
they have found.
